A Land Before Time
Many plants and animals have roamed the Earth for much longer than we've been around. From trees that lived with mammoths to animals that walked alongside dinosaurs, join us on a journey to a land before time! This online session is offered April through July, and most suitable for Grades 4-6 (ages 8-12).
Animal Adaptations
Winter is a harsh season in Canada and without the luxury of warm fleece blankets and indoor heating, what’s a wild animal to do? Turns out, there are lots of different strategies for handling the cold like a pro! Join us for a discussion of some of the cool adaptations our native wildlife use!
Animal Signs
Finding wildlife might seem a bit trickier in the colder months of winter but rest assured, they are there! In fact, animals leave lots of clues of their presence that can be seen even with the ice and snow. Join us as we explore different animal signs and wildlife in the winter at The Arboretum!
Animal Tracking
To avoid predators and get close to unsuspecting prey, animals need to be sneaky! Luckily for us, snow in the winter can give us an extra clue to finding them (or at least knowing that they are around) with tracking. Join us as we learn the basics of how to find and identify some common tracks you may see this winter.
Greener Footprints
It's important to protect our environment for future generations to come! That's why conservation of our biodiversity is something that we work hard to do here at The Arboretum. Learn more about what we do and what you can also do at home to leave greener footprints on our Earth! This online session is offered April through July, and most suitable for Grades 4-6 (ages 8-12).
Trees in Winter
Winter is a challenging time of the year and many animals must don a winter coat, hibernate, or even leave for somewhere warmer! Trees however, know how to tough it out here in the ice and snow. Join us in exploring the wonderful world of trees in the wintertime!
Winter Seed Heads
Plants in the winter may not be as colourful as in the summer, but there’s still lots of beauty to enjoy! Don’t discount those summer blooms just yet, after the flowers are done blooming, it’s time for the seed heads to take centre stage. Join us to learn about the winter seed heads of some of the common plants near us!
