Predaceous Diving Beetle

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Arthropoda

Class: Insecta

Order: Coleoptera

Family: Dytiscidae

Predaceous diving beetles range in size between 2.5 to 4.5 cm and have dark brown, black or green colouring. All beetles breathe air. In order to inhabit aquatic environments, Predaceous Diving Beetles have developed features that allow them to survive in water. Adult predaceous diving beetles store air bubbles underneath their wing covers (elytra) so that they can breathe the air through little holes (spiracles) on their abdomen.
