Painted Turtle

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Testudines

Family: Emydidae

Genus: Chrysemys

Species: Chrysemys picta

With all the beautiful yellows, reds, and oranges on their face and the edge of their shell, it’s no wonder that it's called Painted Turtle! Their shell isn’t just for looking pretty, though. If they think danger is coming, they can pull their head, legs, and tail completely into their hard, protective shell. Any predator will have a tough time biting through that!
