Central Mudminnows are typically 6 cm and may grow as long as 11.5 cm. They have 14 vertical dark brown bars along their sides. Central Mudminnows prefer habitats with dense vegetation coverage and slow-moving water. Unlike many other fish, Central Mudminnows are able to survive in water with low oxygen levels. One way Central Mudminnows adapt to low oxygen environments is by breathing air from the surface of the water. Central Mudminnows are carnivorous bottom feeders that prey on various freshwater invertebrates.
