Aquatic Earthworm

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Annelida

Class: Clitellata

Subclass: Oligochaeta

Aquatic earthworms look similar to the earthworms we often see on land with their long, cylindrical, and segmented bodies. They often burrow in the bottom sediment where they live to snack on algae, bacteria, and organic debris. To breathe underwater, they absorb oxygen over their entire body. Being able to tolerate low-oxygen environments and eat detritus, aquatic earthworms can be found in almost all aquatic habitats!
