Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Arthropoda

Class: Crustacea

Order: Amphipoda

Amphipods, commonly known as scuds, are small crustaceans. Their size ranges from 1 to 140 mm. Freshwater amphipods can be found in both shallow water systems as well as at the bottom of lakes. Amphipods are primarily scavengers, meaning that they’ll feed on dead and decaying animals.
